This document written in 1997 is being publicly released October 2003.
It revealed a flaw in BIND that gave Network Solutions far greater
control over the Internet name space than was commonly realized at the
time. The DNS name space was especially politically unstable in 1997,
and there was a concern that Network Solutions could take advantage of
this flaw, as well as their existing monopoly position to seize
control of the Internet name space. I have worked with appropriate
parties to rectify this problem, and correctly functioning name
servers are now almost universally deployed.
